Pros & Cons of Hardwood Refinishing
First, this method helps remove most dents, scratches, and damage by taking off some of the top layer of your wood floors. Sanding also prepares the wood for staining, offering a wide variety of stain colors.
The downside is that each refinishing takes off about 0.5 – 1.5 mm of the floor’s top layer, meaning it can only be done a limited number of times, as specified by the hardwood’s guidelines.

Hardwood buffing or polishing works well for floors in good condition that need a little refresh. It involves lightly scuffing the floor with a machine and using a special chemical on the surface. Minor floor damages are fixed before adding a new finish coat. This method is quicker and cheaper than traditional refinishing. While it doesn’t remove deep scratches or dents, and some dust may still settle, it’s a less intense option.
